WENA Officers and Board of Directors
2010 Officers & Directors

Sharlene Moss, President

Greenfield Avenue
I have enjoyed living in this neighborhood since 1987.  I've been a long time member of WENA and have served on the board in various positions since 2004.  I find it a rewarding experience to do something for my neighborhood. To meet and connect with neighbors is why I joined the board in the first place.  I would like to continue to give back to this wonderful neighborhood.  As a CERT graduate and Chairperson for the Marin County CERT Coalition, disaster preparedness is something all of us could do to help each other prepare for a disaster.  Encouraging neighbors to volunteer within our neighborhood helping elderly neighbors or cleaning up trash and graffiti would also enhance and preserve the character of our neighborhood and build a strong connection and pride among residents.   There are so many things we could do in our neighborhood:  connect families, clear open space hiking trails, preserve neighborhood history, welcome wagon, and much more...there's something for everyone to do!

Dave Borton, Vice President Tamal Vista Drive

My wife Hanne and I have lived in San Rafael and the West End since 2000.  We are “imports” from the high-tech South Bay, the mid-west and Europe.  I took early retirement from an electronics firm - after which Hanne and I owned and operated a childcare / preschool in Novato.  We then both retired in 2006 and enjoy our time in beautiful Marin very much.  We enjoy keeping active with skiing, sailing, hiking and visiting the wonderful wineries and restaurants of the area.  I totally support the idea that strong neighborhoods provide for a strong community and country.  Serving through WENA allows me to “give back” to the community. Volunteering and self-help projects are a key way we can all help - and I want to foster and encourage that spirit.

Lynn MacDermott, Treasurer Greenfield Avenue
I have lived on Greenfield Avenue with my husband, Gordie, since 1994, and I have served on the WENA board as treasurer since 2005.  Being on the board has given me the opportunity to serve this neighborhood that I love, and I have also enjoyed working with the other dedicated members of the board.  I believe in the importance of fostering community by getting to know our neighbors, being informed about issues that affect us, and working together to keep our neighborhood safe, beautiful and enjoyable.

Jennifer Manetta, Secretary West End Street
I'm a fairly new resident of the West End.  I've always enjoyed meeting people and decided to join the neighborhood association and then became a WENA Board member in 2009. I am a middle school teacher, mother, artist, and motorcycle rider.  I joined the Board because I am interested in beautification projects, creating community, and preserving the character this unique neighborhood.

Janis Peterson, Director Upper Fremont Avneue
My husband and I have lived in the West End Neighborhood since 1995 on a “little known” hill up a very windy road. I have worked in San Rafael for over 20 years and love being able to walk from my house to downtown in minutes. As a realtor with Coldwell Banker I have an appreciation for the eclectic nature of the West End with its many mini-neighborhoods. The challenge for WENA is to connect all of these mini-neighborhoods in such a way as to build community, communication and participation. Serving on the WENA Board over the past few years has given me the opportunity to work with a fun and dedicated group of neighbors who are enthusiastic about the West End and enhancing the quality of life in the neighborhood. 2008 is going to be a great year for WENA and I look forward to serving on the board.

Jackie Moore, Director  Greenfield Avenue
When my in-laws decided to downsize, my husband and I were able to move into their home on Greenfield and we are thrilled to live in this great neighborhood.  Speeding traffic on Greenfield is a huge concern of mine and I wanted to join the board to bring attention to this issue.  I'm also interested in beautification projects and expanding the welcome wagon for the neighborhood.

Vicki Fernandez, Director  Greenfield Avenue
I've lived on Greenfield Ave. for 26 years. You may have seen me at various WENA events taking photographs (one of my passions) for the website or walking my dog Rico.  Everyone on Greenfield knows Rico and my husband, Ben!  I am a nurse who is CERT trained and a member of CERT Radio. I want to be part of the WENA Board to help further neighborhood awareness of the importance of disaster preparedness and support the Board's efforts in this area.  I'm also interested in supporting any movement toward building community in our neighborhood and informing the neighbors of opportunities regarding charitable needs among our residents.  I have been a member of WENA for many, many years and look forward to taking a more active role.

Deborah Coburn, Director  Terrace Avenue
I have lived in the West End since 1987 and have always supported the neighborhood association. I am a green interior designer (dba Naturally Inspired) who educates and consults on colors, products and principles inspired by Nature to make sustainable design decisions. I have been a full service interior designer for 30+ years, working with clients in New York, Arizona, Montana and the SF Bay Area. I am interested in being on the WENA Board because I am interested in learning more about being involved in community on a neighborhood level.  I also would like to get to know more of my neighbors!

Jay Bellin, Director  Spring Grove Avenue
A native of Southern California and a Marin Resident since 1992, I live on Spring Grove with my wife Amy, children Hana and Zachary and our dog Jasper. I own a Global Logistics firm serving well-known Bay Area shippers such as Peets Coffee, Gymboree, Restoration Hardware, Tesla Motors and a host of Hi-Tech Medical Instrument Manufactures.   I have always been an ardent advocate of the local community and those less fortunate. I routinely participate in annual events such as the California Coastal Cleanup, Renew the Zoo, KQED pledge drives, blood drives, and school fundraisers. Most recently, I led campaigns to raise money for a woman's clinic in Darfur, an orphanage in Haiti, and I join a crew each Spring to fix homes in New Orleans. I'm currently a member of the Marin Organizing Committee (MOC), and I'm working with the management of the Marin IJ and San Francisco Chronicle to identify and stop the trashing of our local neighborhood of plastic straps and wrapping paper. I look forward to joining the WENA Board to further my commitment to the local community.
